WebP supports lossy compression and transparency. This tool uses the browser encoder to create a still WebP at the same decoded dimensions. If encoding is unsupported, it explains the limitation instead of returning a PNG with a misleading filename.
Compare before replacing the original
Start at quality 85. Inspect text, faces, gradients and sharp edges. Lower settings can reduce bytes but introduce artifacts; the number is not a guaranteed visual-quality percentage. A smaller file is not guaranteed for already optimized inputs.
For a large product photograph, compare the actual output size. If the image is wider than needed on the page, resize it first. Removing unnecessary pixels can matter more than a small quality adjustment.
Transparency is retained. The tool does not remove backgrounds, create responsive HTML or process animations. It supports still images up to 20 MB and 24 megapixels. Most source metadata is discarded; retain your original for future edits.
Processing and sources
Inputs are processed on your device, without uploading or saving them to browser storage. Reset clears the result; downloaded files remain on your device. Website requests and permitted advertising or measurement are separate. See our privacy policy.
